Parenting & Child Development

Description

The Parenting & Child Development day within the Training Certificate Program highlights advanced topics in parenting and child development to build upon home visitors’ and supervisors’ existing skills. In this training, home visitors and supervisors learn how to successfully engage families about topics such as behavior management, child feeding, safe sleep practices, and how to negotiate different parenting beliefs within a family. Interactive exercises and simulations are used throughout the workshop to teach and build home visitors’ skills in engaging and supporting families and supervisors’ skills in supporting home visitors.

The following video examples and content pages reflect parenting issues that may come up during home visits. The videos contain examples of home visitors using skills demonstrated during the training to assist in their conversations with caregivers about specific topics. The videos also contain discussion questions at the end that can be used to generate conversations with home visiting teams about training skills. The links below highlight topics covered during training. We have also provided some additional helpful online resources related to parenting.
