Substance Use

Description

This curriculum improves home visitors’ and supervisors’ knowledge, skills and confidence in dealing with substance misuse in families. Home visitors and supervisors are taught basic content in epidemiology and the critical features of substances, their use and their health impacts on children and families, and how to effectively screen families for substance misuse. They will also apply their acquired knowledge to practice by learning how to communicate with caregivers and families about substances. Participants will be informed about various treatment options and resources for substance misuse. Participants learn motivational enhancement techniques to effectively support families in seeking referral resources.This is a module in the UMBC Home Visiting Certificate Training Program.
